Micromax is a company which is well known for cheap-budget Android phones with the best of the specifications that one can afford. One such device is the Micromax Android One or Micromax Canvas A1. It features a 4.5 inches IPS LCD Touchscreen and runs on a Mediatek MT6582 Quad-Core 1.3Ghz processor along with a 1GB RAM. It has a 5 Mega-pixel primary camera which is capable of shooting 720p videos and a secondary camera of 2 Mega-pixels.
It is now available at a price tag of around Rs. 5300 and comes preloaded with Android 4.4.4 KitKat. It is upgradable to Android 5.1 Lollipop. Here we have written a guide on how to update your Micromax Canvas A1 to Android 5.1 via manual method.

Note: The update is also available via OTA, if you’ve had any issues upgrading OTA then try following the manual method to update your device. Do backup your device’s data before opting for this method.
Requirements:
1.) Micromax Canvas A1 running Android 4.4.4.
2.) You will need the following files for proceeding ahead:-
Android 5.1(http://d-h.st/yiOd)
philz recovery.img(https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23681161096069959)
philz one clik installer(http://www.mediafire.com/download/3zsasz9an34snar/one-click-recovery-installer.zip)
And make sure, your device has at least 75% + battery and you have enabled USB Debugging if not Go To Settings–>About Phone–>Tap the build number 4-5 times and this will enable Developer Options and now go in to Developer Options and enable USB Debugging from there.
NOTE:- For installing Android 5.1 on your Micromax Canvas A1, you need to be rooted with the bootloader of your device unlocked and only Philz Recovery should be installed. If Philz recovery is not installed you can follow the steps below to install it, but installing Recovery required a Rooted Device too.
Instructions:
**Installing Philz Recovery:
a.) Install the PC drivers for your Micromax A1 if not yet installed.
b.) Extract the Philz one installer files on your computer.
c.) Paste the Philz Recovery.img file in the folder where you extracted the installer files in above step.
d.) Run the “one-click-recovery-installer.bat” and follow the on-screen instructions.
e.) Once the recovery has been successfully installed, your device will automatically reboot.
***Installing Android 5.1:
a.) Download the Android 5.1 OTA file on your computer and copy the file to your device’s SD Card using a data cable.
b.) Power off your device and remove the data cable from the computer.
c.) After the device has shut down, we need to boot the device in recovery mode. You can do it by
-Press and hold the Volume UP and Power button together until the device has booted into bootloader mode.
-Use Volume UP button to browse and after highlighting the Recovery option, press Volume DOWN to confirm the option.
-You may see an Android logo followed by “No command” written, now keep the power button pressed and press the Volume UP key once.
d.) After you have entered the Recover mode, take a backup of your current ROM.
e.) After the backup is completed, select “Wipe and Format” option and Wipe Data, Cache and Dalvik Cache.
f.) Then return to the main menu and run advance restore function to restore only /system and /boot.
g) Once the restoration process is done, you can reboot the device and you’ll be running Android 5.1 on your Canvas A1.
You can confirm it by going into Settings–>About phone.
